Free .PES! Christmas Vacation Machine Embroidery Project

It’s no secret that I love movies and often talk in movie quotes. This is one my favorite quotes and given the season, it seemed like a good film to pull from. Clark Griswold’s moment of frustration with Frank Shirley and his minions often rings through my head and I giggle every single time. As as matter of fact, I may have giggle snorted an embarrassing number of times while working on this.  I created the artwork from a few merged screen grabs. I simplified the color palette to make it more embroidery friendly and added details with the black lines. He’s stitched on two pieces of tulle turned 90 degrees from one another with stabilizers to hold them as still as possible. At some point, I will remove the extra stabilizer and tulle and mount the thread work. I have a lot of options on how to finish it and will wait until a have a few more quotes to decide exactly how to handle all of them. I’ve never tried to do a whole 5×7 hoop in thread before and wasn’t too sure how it was going to work. I guess-ti-mated how much shifting there would be and just went for it to see what would happen. There are definitely some technical issues with this, but I learned a ton. I have some ideas on how to work those issues for another movie quote. Learning Opportunities: The first step stitches out what was supposed to be a support grid. I realized as soon as it started stitching it was actually a decorative stitch. Oops. It probably still...

Free EEP Template: Hand pieced and decorated Jack-o-Lanterns

It probably comes as no surprise that I love all things Halloween. When there weren’t any Halloween swaps floating around this year, my good friend agreed to do a little mini swap. She seems to really dig handwork and makes some of the prettiest delicate things. I knew I couldn’t match her, but thought I’d at least try to work in a style more her taste than mine and manage to still be goofy. Here’s what I came up with: They are so silly right? These pumpkins and I… I swear, I bet I arranged them about 100 ways to Sunday. They will fit together in one solid sheet, but I when had 16 of them all together, it was a bit overwhelming. I ended up taking them apart, spreading them around and attaching them to burlap with a machine zig zag stitch. I turned them into a bag after coming up with about 100 other uses. You could use some of those ideas – embellish a costume or trick or treat bag, put them on art canvas, make a large pumpkin patch for a wall hanging, or use them for small gift sized candy bags.   The Template Download the printable template here in .pdf format! The pumpkins are done with English Paper piecing using a octagon and square shape. You get 16 from each sheet printed.  The process is exactly the same as the standard EEP hexagon. There are roughly 1 million tutorials and videos out there on how to do it, google “English Paper Piecing Hexagon Tutorial” to find one or two of them. I prefer...

Free Pattern: Octopus Cross Stitch ATC (Artist Trading Card)

Meet The Happy Octopus!   As part of an Instagram crossstitch swap, I made this happy little Octopus. She’s super friendly and oh so fun to look at. To keep it within the ATC size, she is stitched on 18ct aida. If you stitched to the edges rather than fraying them, you may be able to get by with 16ct. If you’d like to make one for yourself or a friend, feel free to download the pattern!   Questions? Comments? Email me anytime at...

WWIT: Zelda Stained Glass Embroidered Denim Shirt, Ideas and Shopping Sep 10, 2015 If you’re a Wind Waker fan, you’ll recognize this artwork nearly immediately. My memory is foggy – but if it is correct, the stained glass art pieces were concept/marking pieces released with the original game in 2003. Over the years, I’ve seen this recreated in fan art in just about every way imaginable for actual stained glass all the way through to commercial wall stickers. I’ve seen it recolored, redrawn, parodied, 3D-ified, screen printed, and I’ve loved it every.single.time. I have made my own attempts at it a few times as well. Several years ago, I ran across the folks over at Sprite Stitch working on cross stitch versions of it. They are simply stunning. I tried, but only made it this far. The project...
Free! Sharktopus Crossing Quilted Sign Pattern

Free! Sharktopus Crossing Quilted Sign Pattern

Download Here! Sharktopus If you’re not familiar with Sharktopus, he’s a syfy mega-monster that has appeared in several of his own films and few classics such as Sharktopus vs Ptercuda and Sharktopus vs Whalewolf. I’m not sure why Sharktopus appeals to me so much but I rate him well above ‘nados, zombie shark, or ghost shark. I’m not sure where he bumps any of my previous top three shark favorites, but man is he close! If you get it, you get it. If you don’t, that’s ok we can still be friends! Inspiration We were watching Sharktopus the other night and I thought – he really deserves a little fan art! I thought a silhouette was be a nice way to represent him so I went on a google hunt for some movie screenshots for reference. I can across this on IGN: I knew I had something! I dug around a bit but could only find that is was a promotional poster for the first Sharktopus movie. While I love the idea of it being a warning, I thought crossing was funner so I created myself a more applique friendly silhouette and created templates for both XING and WARNING. Download the Pattern I seriously think everyone that gets it deserves their own sharktopus sign since I can’t make them for you I will give you the templates to make one for yourself! Have fun and I’d love to see yours if you make...
