PacMan Christmas Tree

PacMan Christmas Tree

Here’s one of my favorite projects ever from last year.PacManChristmasTree (1)

I showed him around the web last year and it didn’t seem to really grab anyone’s attention. I just couldn’t for the life of me understand why since I just thought I had the bee’s knees of a fan art Christmas project.

It is funny what a little bit of distance will do isn’t it? Now that I’m looking at it, I think I see why – it looks a little bit effortless doesn’t it? Well, now that I have the platform, I’ll tell you, it wasn’t! Absolutely everything about it is handmade or modified, right down to the tree itself. I sculpted and painted every ornament completely authentic to the original PacMan arcade game including the topper and I strung every bead. My favorite ornament? The glass eyes:

I’m quite partial to the topper too. It is one of the first things I sculpted that I thought looked like a very close 3D representation of 2D art.

The tree skirt is completely custom as well.  With my far more experienced eye, I can its technical issues. But hey – it was my first time ever working in a circle, first time custom applique, custom buttons, custom quilting, and bias binding. I kind of want one just like it in whole tree size. I know I don’t have time to do it in the next 20 days, but I may not put away my tree skirt when the big tree comes down this year, it will make a nice template for the PacMan version!

What do you think? Full size tree skirt just like this mini? If I did one, would you be interested in a printable pattern?
