The very generous Julie @627handworks has kindly allowed me to guest host Thursday Threads while she’s away! I’m pulling out all the stops and showing you what I think is my favorite project ever, my daughter’s Halloween Costume from last year, Wednesday Addams.
Yall, I’m still impressed with myself on this one! Every bit of it (save the shoes) is custom made or altered. This is “the project” that built my confidence and made me fearless when it comes to trying new things or techniques I’m not comfortable with.
Move over Project Runway!
I’m not an apparel maker so I had to start with something for the sleeves and collar. The closest pattern I could find to what I was looking for was this Simplicity pattern. I needed something in her size that had the shoulder, arm hole, and collar (neck and arm) measurements worked out. I cut the pattern pieces and made edits, lots of edits. The skirt and bodice was separate so I shortened the skirt and taped it to the bodice part of the pattern. I also added a split down the front and 2″ to accommodate the buttons. I made the dress the first time by basting muslin pieces together, editing the fit, taking them apart and doing it all over again. When I was happy with it, I took apart the muslin and used it as the pattern.
I’m going to tell you more about the accessories next week. I’m still a little giddy over the haunted house bag – you see the lights in the windows?? awww yeah, this bag is wired!
Just for fun – here’s another picture of my sweet evil little Wednesday:
Now it is all about you!
Every week, Julie manages the ridiculously hard task of choosing three favorite links from the week before. I found them all to be fantastic! If you missed the party I highly recommend you go back and take a look! As much as I love finishes, I also really love community and tips, techniques, and tutorials. I know how much work they can be. This week I’m giving some shout outs to some great tutorials and patterns!
Stop on by So Sew Easy and get some great tips on pressing! There’s a little bit here for everyone. Great info for beginners and some nice reminders for those of us that have been around a bit.
Look at this darling ipad cover from Sarah @Thrift Store Crafter. She’s got nice clear instructions for both an ipad and ipad mini and a super clever tool to make those rounded corners!
SQUE! Harlequin! Lindsay over @Inspiring Creations has a nice diamond making tutorial with some previews of how to use those diamonds. Could someone get to making me one in black and white please?
Your turn! Whatcha got this week? Let’s see it!
