The Sunday Geekery: Chris Hardwick, Casual Games, and Making Christmas

On Chris Hardwick…

220px-Chris_HardwickFriday night, we had the privilege of seeing the King of Nerds, Chris Hardwick’s stand up at Carolina Theater. We bought the tickets way back when, so long ago that I wasn’t sure we were actually going!  I was a touch concerned that it was going to be too dirty for me, but was pleasantly surprised when all of the dick jokes were in “good taste”. If you’re not familiar with Chris Hardwick, you should really stop by the Nerdist (his media empire) and take a look. I do quite enjoy the podcasts too (except the hostfulls… I know know, I’m sorry Chris, I’m one of THOSE people.)
Enjoy your burrito!

On Casual Games…

I play casual games. Yes, it is true. The meaningless time wasters that would make a hardcore gamer giggle and sneer. You know what? I love them! I dare not think how many times I’ve clicked my mouse button doing little tasks like serving diner customers, painting nails, planting crops, or feeding livestock. I like almost all casual games, but my favorite in the genre is the hidden object games.  Yes, that’s right. I’m a 30-something woman that purposely does Hilights magazine seek n finds over and over and over again! One of my favorite series comes from Playrix games. Right now, I’m playing Barn Yarn.

barn-yarn-customThe gist of this series of games (Gardenscapes, Gardenscapes 2, Fishdom and Barn Yarn) is you sell items from your overstuffed rooms in order to make money to rebuild your Barn (garden, aquarium). It’s a real laid back play. 10 or 20 minutes here and there clearing a few rooms and buying upgrades. I find it funny that it has a “casual” mode. That must be supremely laid back!

On Making Christmas…

Woot! I get to tick one thing off the list a few others are coming right along!

Soma @Whims and Fancies is hosting this week’s party and she’s added a fantastically detailed tutorial on making pencil cases! I think these would make awesome Christmas gifts and might land on my Making Christmas make list!

  1. OMG I would LOVE to participate, but if, I start to make my list, this will make me incredibly depressed and therefore I will neither have time for the finishing of the projects, nor of the participation in the blog party!
I LOVE your admitting to silly games. And Chris Hardwick. And…we have a little geeky crush on him, no? Who wouldn’t !?!

    • hahaha, I kind of hate having a list myself. That’s why I reserve the right to change my mind about anything anytime and I have been known to do it…

I don’t know why I play those dumb games. I swear, I have gamer cred and the xbox achievements to prove it! For some reason though I’m drawn to the laid back, no pressure, who gives a crap type games. Maybe because life is sometimes hard and I just don’t need the pressure to keep poor Ms. Croft from falling off the cliff. 🙂

Is Chris Harwick not just living the super nerd dream? That guy is too much, totally and completely jealous.

  2. Thanks for the shout-out Susan. What a fun post! Made me smile 🙂

    • You’re welcome Soma! I liked it so much it is featured in The Horde weekly newsletter too! 🙂

  3. I’m glad you posted about Chris Hardwick. I had never heard of him, so I went and watched a bunch of videos, including All Star Celebrity Bowling. So funny! Glad you had a fun night out!

    • lol, yes, the bowling is fun. 🙂 I’m glad you like him too! He often finds the funnest guests and I like that they talk about stuff and not always promotions etc. Makes them more human and interesting. Good listens, watches, reads, etc.

What say you?
